Pros and Cons

Now that both boys are in day care, I am reminded of the pros and cons that come along with it.

Pros: 1) Both Chris and I can work.  This brings me great joy because we can earn extra money and I can do what I love to do - teach.   2) Our boys are well taken care of during the day by people we know and trust.  3) The boys gain social skills that I simply could not give them if they were home alone with me all day. 4) Once in a great while I actually get some time to myself where I can go grocery shopping or get to the gym.  Never take that alone time for granted!

Cons: 1) It's expensive.  Really.  F'ing.  Expensive.  And 2) COOTIES!!  Ben was super sick his first year of day care, and now it's Tommy's turn.  The only good thing is that they are exposed early and normally don't get many illnesses in the future.  But now, it's horrible.  Tommy has a virus in his lungs that requires him to be on the nebulizer every few hours.  Misery for all.  He is also on antibiotics for an ear infection.  Side effects of antibiotics = misery for all.  Lack of sleep = misery for all.

Considering how miserable having a sick baby is, it's still pretty awesome that he is still so happy and smiley through the whole thing.  And, when he is feeling better, he will go back to day care. : )

Sick but happy Tommy

Big Brother Ben has already been through it.  Suzy dog just likes to smile.

Fun Weekend

Crazy weather, movies and popcorn, swimmies and the playground - it was a good weekend!

Friday night when Chris was out after work, I was home with my sister and the boys.  Around 9pm we heard the LOUDEST BOOM I've ever heard.  My side tables shook.  It sounded like something had crashed in the back yard, or thunder crashed right on top of the house.  It was LOUD and shook the house.  My heard jumped.  The boys both slept right through it.  20 minutes (or so) later, we heard dishes crashing, but all of the dishes were in the dishwasher!  What was happening?!  Both my sister and I were a little freaked out.  Turns out it was an EARTHQUAKE!!  Mild as it may have been (2.1) - those sounds and feelings are not common here in southwestern CT.  Hey, at least now we can say that we have experienced an earthquake. : )
Saturday morning the crazy weather continued - there were two tornadoes in NYC!  Here in CT we got a lot of crazy wind and storms, but no tornado.  Thank goodness.  We sat around and watched Cars and ate popcorn.  Mimi and Papi came to visit, and we ate pizza for dinner.  It was a fun, low key, inside day.
Sunday morning we went to the playground to meet up with Ben's friend and his mom, where the boys ran around like crazy.  It made for a good nap after lunch.  Then we went up to a nice dinner at Meggie and Papa's house.  All afternoon Ben played in his new house that Carey, Ellen and Libby made for him, and rode his motorcycle - all while wearing his swimmies.  LOL!  He's quite the character these days.

Cheers to a good weekend.  Hopefully our week is equally as fun!

Rainy morning.  Ben likes to watch TV upside down.  I don't get it either.

Trying the outward facing carrier.  Tommy loved it!

First Day of School

Today was the first day of school for Ben and Tommy.  Technically my first day with students is tomorrow, though I've been at school for over a week now.

I know I should have a cute picture of the boys getting ready to go to school, but that just wasn't our reality today.  Reality was that we aimed to leave the house at 7:15 and instead left at 7:25.  We packed bags last night but still needed a few last minute things this morning.  And those things needed to be labeled.  Then we needed to feed and dress the boys and ourselves, let the dog out, pack the car, etc.
We were all set to go, and then Chris lifted Ben into his carseat and realized that he had pooped his pants.  No time to change!!!  Onward to school!  So, we dropped off Tommy first.  He was easy peasy since he doesn't really care who is holding him as long as he or she is snuggly and talking to him and/or giving him a bottle.  Then we took Ben down the hall to his new classroom and new teacher.  Unloaded his things, shook hands with the teacher, got Ben settled and out the door.  And, oh yeah, by the way new teacher,
Chris: "he's got a poop in his diaper.  Sorry about that.  Want me to change him?"
Teacher: "oh, no, don't worry about it.  I can do it."  ~~~Insert teacher eye roll here~~~

We just lost points there!!

Chris and I both speed off to work and there ya go.  We didn't get any phone calls during the day and pick up went well.  So, overall we will call it a success!

I'll try again tomorrow morning for a picture and pretend it was the first day of school.  In the mean time here are some pics from the last few days:

If you ever lose Ben at CVS, this is where you will find him.
